Innovative new lice barrier screen in development by Tom Morrow Tarpaulins
A new style of freshwater screen is the latest in a long line of innovative sea lice barrier solutions from Tom Morrow Tarpaulins.
The Scottish tarpaulin manufacturer is developing the new screens in conjunction with key industry partners to ensure it is fit for purpose, long lasting and easy to deploy.
Taking advantage of an impermeable top layer, the screens afford the same functionality as traditional barrier screens, while also allowing the top portion of the tank to be filled with freshwater for feeding and de-lousing.

Marcus Sanctuary, director of Tom Morrow Tarpaulins, said:
“The world of aquaculture evolves at an incredible pace, and we’re excited to be at the forefront of innovation in sea lice prevention technology. It’s important to us that our products always serve the unique needs of the fish farmers we work with around the world, allowing them to protect their livelihoods and safeguard their businesses against harmful pests like sea lice.”
With over 50 years’ experience in the team, Tom Morrow Tarpaulins is no stranger to innovation and is continuously working to create new products to satisfy the ever-changing demands of the aquaculture industry. Not believing in a ‘one size fits all’ approach, the team works alongside its clients to ensure the design, manufacture and delivery of each product fits their needs exactly. Every item is handmade and closely inspected to guarantee a long-lasting, durable product.
Director Gary Cunningham explained:
“It’s important to us that our products are strong and hard-wearing – allowing our clients the peace of mind that their fish are safe and well protected from sea lice.
“We have spent a great deal of time and effort to source the best quality components we can, to ensure that our clients are not faced with unnecessary repair and replacement costs down the line. Every material – down to the thread – is rigorously tested. By sourcing our materials locally, we have been able to avoid many of the import issues that others in the industry have faced during Brexit and have continued to be able to make our products to the same high standard without any compromises.”
From its base in the Scottish Highlands, Tom Morrow Tarpaulins works with clients across the UK – and around the world in the likes of the Canada, Norway, Australia, Spain and Hawaii – to provide high-quality sea lice prevention solutions to the aquaculture industry. Its range includes lice barrier, screens, treatment tarpaulins, and freshwater treatment and storage bags. The firm’s first treatment cone – constructed over a decade ago – is still in regular use and, thanks to quality aftercare, is expected to last for many more years to come.
