Citribel and Onda announce publication of breakthrough research in Aquaculture Health and Sustainability
Citribel, in collaboration with Onda has published groundbreaking findings that mark significant advances for health and sustainability within the aquaculture industry. The research, conducted by Onda, demonstrates that the feed ingredient MycoFence®, which contains β-glucans derived from Aspergillus niger, significantly boosts survival rates of Atlantic salmon following infections with pathogens Tenacibaculum maritimum and Moritella viscosa.
The study involved feeding Atlantic salmon with varying concentrations of MycoFence® prior to exposure to these pathogens. Results indicated a substantial reduction in mortality rates for salmon on higher MycoFence® concentrations compared to a control group without β-glucan supplementation, pointing to a potent immunostimulatory effect of MycoFence® that could decrease the reliance on antibiotics in aquaculture.
