Umitron develop two new software products for fish and shellfish farmers, Remora and Pulse

Since 2016, Umitron has been building and testing cutting edge products for aquaculture farmers around the world. Based in Singapore and Japan, the company has been actively bringing IoT, AI, and satellite remote sensing technology to the aquaculture industry. Umitron aims to improve farmers’ production strategies as well as help them manage their environmental risks. In the past year, they developed two new software products for fish and shellfish farmers, Remora and Pulse.

As its namesake suggests, Remora connects to a farm’s existing camera systems via their barge or feed center’s computer, analyzes fish feeding behaviour and identifies pellets in the water column. Feed operators will be able to set thresholds according to their needs and will be notified when behavioural changes and pellets are observed. All of the data is available to the operators in an easy-to-use interface while simultaneously allowing them to watch video streams from the cameras.

Pulse is a satellite-based ocean monitoring service allowing farmers to access real-time, high-resolution environmental data worldwide. Five key parameters: dissolved oxygen, temperature, chlorophyll, salinity, and wave height, are currently available. Subscribers can access forecasts and historical data and compare trends over time or between sites with custom charts. The service is currently accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.

The team has also created hardware solutions for fish farmers that lack existing camera equipment. CELL is a solar-powered AI smart feeder that is suitable for smaller fish pens. LENS is a portable stereo camera system with AI that measures fish size and determines a pen’s biomass. Both of these devices are used by red sea bream and yellowtail farmers in Japan, where we have a long track record of working with both small and large farmers.

The Umitron team is excited to connect with producers and learn more about how technology can help farmers achieve their business and sustainability goals. They are also interested in working with farmers who want to test new technologies or have ideas for how satellite data and feeding video analysis can help their farm operations.
