Panel Discussion: Progressing adoption of alternative ingredients in Scottish aquaculture
In the last 24 months, the aquafeed market has been exposed to unprecedented risks in raw material sourcing and pricing due to economic, climate and geopolitical challenges. Extending the raw material basket with the use of alternative aquafeed ingredients can mitigate this risk, and despite a slow start is now gaining momentum in many parts of the world. Examples of alternatives are algal oil and insect meal but despite being a front runner in the use of marine trimmings, the Scottish industry has been slow to adopt any inclusion of alternatives.
Firstly, we will invite key industry stakeholders to discuss their thoughts on the use of alternative ingredients and how the industry’s actions are matching up to their commitments. Secondly, we want to get your opinions on the importance and potential barriers to adoption of alternative ingredients in Scotland, to initiate a conversation with suppliers. Our aim is to drive the conversation towards the acceptance of alternative ingredients to support the health, welfare and quality of our fish and ultimately drive the sustainable growth of the UK aquaculture industry.
Attend this session to learn about:
– The current status of alternative ingredient use in global aquaculture markets
– Insights from industry experts on the benefits and success stories of using alternative ingredients
– Exploring the challenges and diving deeper into alternative ingredients
