KAESER Rotary Screw Blowers – Utilising Energy-efficient Low-pressure Air in Aquaculture

As automated fish feeding becomes more sophisticated, so do the demands for ultra-reliable, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance blower systems. Blowers can also be found on specialist feed boats and supply vessels that deliver feed to the farms.

KAESER’s latest innovative Rotary Screw Blowers are highly efficient across a broad flow rate control range. Their exceptional performance and efficiency allow savings of up to 35% compared to conventional blower systems.

Our reliable, energy-efficient KAESER products are specifically designed and built to provide maximum durability in Aquaculture environments and ensure maximum process reliability to minimise the risk of downtime.

The importance of reliable and efficient low-pressure blowers to automated fish feeding systems for aquaculture:

Operators of fish farms and Aquaculture sites, whether onshore or offshore, depend on a reliable, quality supply of low-pressure and compressed air for a variety of equipment, systems, and processes. Short downtime of critical equipment, such as a low-pressure blower or air compressor, causing an interruption to the on-site air supply, can lead to major issues and potentially mass stock mortalities.

As aquaculture has become more intensive and farms have grown in size, the industry has had to find new solutions to traditional methods, such as how valuable fish stocks are fed. One such solution has been the development and implementation of automated pneumatic fish feeding systems utilising reliable, quality and energy-efficient rotary screw or conventional blowers.

Used widely for salmon farming in sea pens, a pneumatic feeding system starts with a quality blower which generates low-pressure compressed air. Feed is then transferred from a silo via a doser into the airflow. The air then transports the feed through a revolver selector valve. With minimum pressure drop, here distributor pipes rotate around an axis and connect one single feeding pipe with multiple feeding pipes. This then guides the feed to the selected pens. Feed is then equally distributed with the help of a rotor spreader.

This gentle method creates little damage to the feed (pellet breakage), and compared to other systems like hydraulic feeding, it is also a clean process. Most importantly, it has proven to be an extremely reliable system.

KAESER Compressors designed and developed their rotary screw blower series to meet the special requirements that aquaculture applications demand. Highly efficient across a broad flow rate control range, their exceptional performance and efficiency allow savings of up to 35% compared to conventional blower systems.
