Lantra Scotland have launched new Aquaculture Ambassador Scheme with STEM Ambassadors in Scotland
Lantra Scotland has been working in collaboration with STEM Ambassadors in Scotland to launch the Aquaculture Ambassador scheme, a new initiative using the skills and knowledge of people working in aquaculture to inspire and encourage young people to join the sector.

We know that there are already great Ambassadors out there working directly with schools through the STEM Ambassador programme. Through this complementary scheme, Lantra can better identify geographic gaps. At the same time, we want to make sure that those working in aquaculture have the support materials they need to showcase the wide range of opportunities the sector offers.
As an Aquaculture Ambassador, you will bring your sector to life, talking about everyday experiences at careers events, classroom lessons, STEM-focused events and workshops for teachers and career influencers. With your help, young people will understand how skills and qualifications in subjects such as sciences, maths, IT and technology, as well as many others, are required for careers in aquaculture.
Ambassadors are free to decide the amount of time they spend on activities, which age groups to work with, what activities to be involved with, and how they engage with young people. This may be online or in person, once current restrictions are lifted.
Those who have participated in STEM Ambassador activities find there are many benefits, including:
- Building confidence
- Improved planning and communication skills
- Raising awareness of their organisation and wider industry
- Access to a wider network of other people who are passionate about the development of the industry, giving the opportunity to share ideas, experiences, and resources.
